This morning
the frost was so thick
on the little table
in the garden
that when I put
my tea tray down
it started to slide off.

I wish I were like
one of those Buddhists
who could sit in Zazen
and melt snow flakes
for a metre all around them
but I don’t seem
to have reached
that level yet.

I just have to
sit and shiver
under the stars
until the stillness comes.
